For more than two decades, Baylor University has strategically grown its research enterprise, driven by the vision of preeminence as a Christian research university. Those efforts gained significant momentum with the adoption of Illuminate, the University’s strategic plan. Illuminate galvanized strategic alignment throughout the University, which resulted in R1 recognition by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education in 2021.
In living out the priorities of Illuminate, Baylor University met and exceeded stretch goals in significant Carnegie Classification metrics:
- Doubling University research expenditures between 2018 and 2022
- Expanding research staff from 53 to 93
- Increasing research doctorates awarded from 112 to 274
Additionally, through Baylor’s Lab to Market Collaborative, the University has generated $15 million in research funding and been awarded 113 patents.
